Get Ongoing Personal Support to Read and Use this Website  (The 1st Upgrade)

There is a widespread tendency to read books or other materials and not apply the useful ideas and methods they contain. There are many reasons for this.  First, because learning takes effort. Second, because people are often distracted by the next new idea, or the next hyped book. There are so many books with upgrades and better methods that people can easily become overwhelmed.

Thus, what happens is that very few books succeed in causing a lot of change. These books succeed either because they are extremely well-written or because they have a part that catches the fancy of most people. Or they succeed because a lot of money has been spent publicizing them.

In the case of this website I do not have the funds for a massive publicity campaign.  Nor am I an accomplished writer. So my solution is to ask you to get support person—perhaps the person who told you about this website. If you let them, this person will help you digest and apply the upgrades here. They will help you to take each upgrade seriously. They will help you to be clear about your decision regarding each upgrade.

They will also challenge your bias—if you give them permission. Recall when I wrote that most people have a favorite way to understand the world’s problems, whether they are economic, psychological, political, religious, etc. These frameworks are useful, but everyone has biases and everyone has blind spots.

And most people resist change. So I expect most people to resist one or more of these upgrades. That’s why allowing someone to support you and sometimes challenge you is so critical.

The easiest form of ongoing support to create and use is called the Buddy System.  It’s basically you and another person talking twice a week, usually by phone for about 10-15 minutes.  During each call you each talk about your progress since the previous call, and your plans up to the next call.  Details of how to set up and use the Buddy System are at Buddy System Basics.
